Many schools guarantee results and offer either group or private lessons. There are also lessons custom tailored for advanced surfers and expert guides can be hired for a surf-ari where an experienced instructor will take you a location with bigger waves and much stronger surf. This is defiantly for the more advanced student.
Surfing on Maui can be fun and easy and there are many schools offering lessons. Be sure to inquire about which is the best school to chose from and get my personal endorsement. Not everyone is great at teaching and it’s a very competitive activity. Seems like everyone has gotten in on the surfing lesson band wagon.
I strongly suggest private lessons for either beginners or the more experienced wave-shredder who really wants to actively advance to their next level of surfing skills
There are many professional and expert surf instructors who are trained to work with people of all skill levels, ages, male or female. There are many talented surfing instructors on Maui who are trained in CPR and first aid. It’s important to know that you are getting the very best instruction that you can.

Over the 2 decades that I had my school, I taught thousands of group lessons. I was able to keep a keen eye on everyone and I was able to give everyone the attention they deserved. Again, let me guide you to the best of the best and help you make sure you get the very most for your money.
A group lesson will consist of about 20 minute beach instruction followed by the water time. Make certain you have the instructor’s attention and don’t get lost in the shuffle. Be in their face if you need to be. Many instructors are young kids who can’t teach a group of more than 2 so again, let me guide you as to where to go. Surfing is a good and healthy sport and Hawaii is without a doubt the best place to learn. Surfing in Hawaii in warm water is by far so much better than learning in cold water. A wetsuit is so restricting and on Hawaii a wetsuit is not necessary. That is one of the great things about it.
Make sure you have a patient and friendly instructor and the correct size board. Don’t let them put you on boards that are too small, because it won’t float you and you’ll have difficulties catching the wave and then once you do catch it, you’ll have a problem getting up and staying up. So do make certain you have someone who knows what they are doing. Fill out our reservation form and we’ll suggest the right school for you.
