FAQ’s

Q:  I am a middle aged woman and weigh about 40 pounds more than I should. However, I am in good shape considering that and a strong swimmer. Have     ever surfed in my life and have always wanted to learn – or at least take a class while I am in Maui. Hoping you have some suggestions…And do you think I can do it?

A:   Absolutely. If you can get to your feet from a prone position you probably can surf. Even if you just ride the wave laying down on the board, guaranteed, you’ll have fun

Q:  I am a skateboarder but have never tried surfing before. Do you think I can do it?

A:  No doubt about it. You’ll most probably get up right away and ride your first wave into the beach.

Q:  Can I really learn to surf in just one lesson?

A:  With the proper instructor and the right size board, you can. But proper instruction is key.And correct board size is next. And don’t take on waves that are too big!

Q:  Where are the lessons given?

A:  Typically at Lahaina Harbor or in Kihei at Cove Park. These 2 spots generally have a little something to learn on and the waves can also come in pretty big at these locations.

Q:  Where are the biggest waves on Maui?

A:  In the summer, the south swell comes in and Freight Train in Maalaea can get big and FAST.

A:  Hookipa gets a bunch of size as does Honolua Bay. La Peruse can also break big.
